Mothers & Daughters

There is probably no relationship more compelling, complex and daunting than the bond between mother/daughter. This is a powerful, emotional relationship. Sometimes the relationship is close and other times distant. Mothers want their daughter to be happy and daughters want the same for their mother. Areas of disagreement and difference cause the most difficulty between mother and daughter.

A daughter's identification with her mother’s strengths and vulnerabilities has a powerful influence upon her sense of well being. A woman’s choice of a mate may reflect her mother’s attitude, wishes, and expectations.

Mothers come in all different shapes and sizes. Some are compassionate and emotional, some are controlling, rejecting or critical. Some neglect and abuse, some become sick and die, some have wisdom and strength, but most have a multiple range of feelings, wishes and hopes for their daughters. Sorting through these differing emotional feelings can be a healing experience.
